Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 3 minutes
Servings 15 people

Ingredients

  • 1 12-ounce box rice, wheat, or corn Chex cereal, or 10 to 11 cups of a combination
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 1 1/2 cups Christmas M&Ms 10 to 11 ounces
  • 1 1/2 pounds white chocolate bars or discs see Recipe Notes if using white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky salt

Instructions

  • Prepare 2 rimmed baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper, wax paper, or silicone baking mats.
  • Combine 12 ounces of Chex cereal (equivalent to 10 to 11 cups), 2 cups of mini pretzel twists, and 1 1/2 cups of Christmas M&Ms in a large bowl. Stir the mixture with a rubber spatula until well combined.
  • If using bars of white chocolate, coarsely chop 1 1/2 pounds of it (no need to chop discs or chips). Place the white chocolate in a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring after each, until fully melted – this should take about 1 1/2 minutes in total. Alternatively, you can place it in a medium heatproof bowl, fitting the bowl over a saucepan containing an inch of simmering water, and melt it over low heat. Stir often, and it should take around 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Pour the melted white chocolate over the cereal mixture. Gently fold the ingredients with the rubber spatula, making sure to go around the edges of the bowl and scraping down to the bottom, until everything is evenly coated. Transfer this mixture onto the prepared baking sheets and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of flaky salt over the top.
  • Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature until the white chocolate is set – this usually takes about 1 1/2 hours. Alternatively, if you’re in a hurry, you can refrigerate it for approximately 45 minutes. Once set, break the Christmas Chex Mix into pieces using your hands.

Notes

White Chocolate Options: Choose white chocolate chips with cocoa butter, like Guittard Choc-au-Lait, for a smooth melt in this recipe. If you can’t find chips with cocoa butter, go for white chocolate bars or discs instead. Avoid white candy melts as they lack the rich flavor of white chocolate.
Gluten-Free Adaptation: For a gluten-free version, opt for gluten-free mini pretzel twists and use corn or rice Chex cereal.
Storage Instructions: Keep the mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. If refrigerated, it stays fresh for up to 2 weeks, and you can freeze it for up to 1 month.
